OA3p (OPEN Alliance 3-pin)

OA3p (OPEN Alliance 3-pin)

The OPEN Alliance 3-pin is a crucial protocol in the field of Automotive Ethernet testing. It primarily defines the testing requirements for the physical layer (PHY) in automotive environments, ensuring that devices maintain consistency, reliability, and stability under various operating conditions.

Acute Technology offers logic analyzers and mixed signal oscilloscopes (MSOs) capable of decoding OA3p.

Setup Steps For Decoding OPEN Alliance 3-pin Interface

1. Click Quick Settings or Add Protocol Decode to select a protocol for logic analyzer capture.

2. Select OA3p for decoding.

3. If you use Quick Settings, the system will recommend configurations for trigger type, sampling rate, voltage threshold, and channel settings.

4. Click the icon to access the Decode Settings screen

Decode Settings

Channel

  • TX: Set the channel for transmitting data.
  • RX (MDC): Set the channel to monitor MDC (Management Data Clock) or incoming data.
  • ED (MDO): Set the channel to monitor the energy detect or MDO (Management Data Output) signal.

OA3p Settings

  • Display Mode:
    • TX + Config: Displays transmission (TX) data along with configuration details.
    • RX + Config: Displays reception (RX) data along with configuration details

Ethernet Settings (10BASE-T1S)

    • Show Sync Code: Display Commit and SSD
    • Hide BEACON: Exclude Beacon data from display
    • FCS in Byte Order: Present FCS in byte order in the report
    • Display 5B Code: Display the value of Special Code
    • Show MAC Data: Display MAC data such as Address, Data, and FCS. Additionally, the dropdown menu allows controlling whether IPv4 Data includes the Header.
    • Data Filter: Display only a specified number of bytes of data (minimum of 20 bytes)
    • Report Data: Limit the Data field to display a maximum number of bytes per line; excess content wraps to the next line.

MDIO Settings (Config)

    • Preamble:
      • Enable Bit Count: Allows specifying a custom preamble bit count (default is 32 bits).
    • Data:
      • Data Edge: Defines the edge used for data sampling. Options include:
        • Rising: Samples on the rising edge of the signal.
        • Falling: Samples on the falling edge.
