AMD Serial VID Interface 3

¿Qué es SVI3?

SVI3 (Serial VID Interface 3) is AMD's proprietary serial bus protocol for communication between AMD processors and voltage regulator modules (VRMs). SVI3 uses three signals — SVC (clock), SVD (data), and SVT (telemetry) — to manage dynamic voltage and frequency scaling. The protocol enables the processor to command voltage changes, read VRM telemetry (current, temperature), and manage power states. SVI3 operates at clock speeds up to 50 MHz with a voltage range of 1.08V to 1.98V, and includes features for fast transient response and power state management that are critical for AMD Ryzen and EPYC processor platforms. Acute decoders cover SVI3 Rev. 1.01 and Rev. 2.0. Engineers debugging AMD power delivery systems need SVI3 decode to verify voltage requests, telemetry accuracy, and VRM response timing.

¿Cómo analizar SVI3 con instrumentos Acute

1

4

Configure el decodificador para expected bus speed and protocol versión.

5

Capture y visualice los SVI3 transactions showing voltage ID commands, telemetry readbacks, and power state transitions.

Preguntas frecuentes

Que tasa de muestreo necesito para el análisis SVI3 ?
SVI3 operates at clock speeds from 5 MHz to 50 MHz. For reliable decoding at the maximum 50 MHz clock, use a sample rate of at least 200 MHz (approximately 4x the clock). A sample rate of 400 MHz or higher is recommended to clearly resolve the clock-data relationship and accurately decode command and telemetry phases on the SVD and SVT lines.
Por que mi decodificador SVI3 muestra valores de ID de voltaje incorrectos?
Incorrect VID decoding is usually caused by misassigned signal channels — SVC, SVD, and SVT must be connected to the correct analyzer inputs. SVI3 also uses specific framing and timing that differs from Intel SVID. Verify that the decoder is configured for SVI3 (not SVID), and confirm the signal voltage threshold is appropriate for the SVI3 levels used on your platform (1.08V-1.98V). Acute supports SVI3 Rev. 1.01 and Rev. 2.0 — confirm your decoder is set to the correct revision for your platform.
Cuantos canales se necesitan para el análisis de SVI3 ?
SVI3 requires 3 channels: SVC (clock), SVD (data), and SVT (telemetry). AMD platforms often have separate SVI3 buses for different power rails (e.g., core VDD, SoC VDD), so allocate 3 channels per SVI3 bus. Monitoring all power domains on an EPYC platform may require 6-9 channels for SVI3 alone.
